When confronted with multiple tragedies, like the recent submarine disaster and the ongoing migrant sea crises, society often divides its empathy unevenly; this article argues that empathy isn't a zero-sum game, and by uniting in our compassion, we can use shared tragedy to fuel systemic reform, particularly regarding global migration policies.
